Biography
Mark Brian Kelleher has been representing the City of Philadelphia in the Pennsylvania Legislator since 2024.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mark is a second-generation politician. He is the son of Brian Kelleher, a former Philadelphia City Councilman; and Barabara Kelleher who was a schoolteacher. With his father being heavily involved in politics he got involved and started volunteering at an early age helping with his father City Council campaigns. After graduating from Julia R. Masterman School, he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Law and Society from Pennsylvania State University. After earning his BS, he joined the Pennsylvania National Guard as an Officer. While in the National Guard, he went to get his Juris Doctorate from University of Pennsylvania's Carey Law School.
After he earned his Juris Doctorate, he joined The Town Law LLC law firm as an Associate working his way up to Senior Partner. During his time at the firm he especially specialized in representing those who committed crimes due to a mental illness and those who were wrongly accused. While he was working as an Attorney, through his father, he got involved in local politics joining the Philadelphia Democratic Committee and eventually becoming the Party Chair.
In 2011 he ran and won election for Philadelphia City Council representing the 6th Council District, where he served until 2017. In 2018, following winning his election, he was sworn in and became Philadelphia's 26th District Attorney. After two years, in 2019, as District Attorney, Mark decided to run for Mayor of Philadelphia against incumbent Jim Kenney who he defeated and became the 99th Mayor of Philadelphia. In 2023, he successfully ran to represent the City of Philadelphia in the Pennsylvania Legislature.
During his time in office, he advocated for a higher minimum wage; lowering taxes for the middle and lower classes; raising taxes for the higher class; Marijuana legality; Public Housing; Medicaid Expansion and other policies to move the City of Philadelphia into a better future.
