Biography
Madison Hillman grew up in Oxford, Mississippi, a college town surrounded by the deep musical traditions of the Delta. Her father was a mechanic who played blues records in the garage (Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James, and R.L. Burnside) while her mother sang in a church choir.
Hillman learned guitar at age 13 after discovering an old resonator guitar in a pawn shop outside Tupelo. She began performing at small coffeehouses and eventually made the short drive north to Clarksdale, where she played open mics at blues clubs and gradually developed a reputation for her haunting slide guitar style.
Hillman’s sound blends traditional Delta blues techniques with modern singer songwriter sensibilities. Her music often features bottleneck slide guitar, minimalist percussion (stomp box or foot tapping), moody storytelling lyrics, and influences from Americana and folk. Critics often describe her music as “Delta blues through an indie lens.”
She is married to her husband Mike and has one child, Davis.
