Biography

Larry Roth has been a fixture in California's civil rights landscape for over five decades. Born in Los Angeles to working-class parents, Larry experienced the challenges and injustices that many marginalized communities face, an experience that would shape his lifelong commitment to civil rights. After earning his degree in political science, he went on to law school, determined to become an advocate for those who couldn’t speak up for themselves. He started his career as a young, ambitious civil rights lawyer in the 1960s, working tirelessly to protect the rights of underrepresented groups, from racial minorities to the LGBTQ+ community. Throughout his career, Larry has led landmark cases and participated in numerous protests, tirelessly advocating for racial equality, voting rights, and police reform. His unyielding commitment to justice has earned him the respect of his peers and the admiration of younger generations who view him as a bridge between past civil rights struggles and today’s ongoing fight for equality. Although he’s faced numerous challenges, including personal loss—his wife passed away many years ago—Larry remains resilient, driven by a deep-seated belief that his work is far from finished. Now, as California's Democratic Senator, Larry brings a wealth of experience, empathy, and wisdom to the Senate floor. He remains a powerful orator and a staunch advocate for his constituents, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds. In his free time, Larry enjoys volunteering at community centers and mentoring young activists, hoping to pass on his knowledge and inspire the next generation of leaders. Despite his age, he is as active and determined as ever, with a vision for a fairer, more inclusive future for California and the nation.
