Dr. Amina Khalid is the current United States Senator from Michigan, serving as a leading voice for healthcare reform, equity, and public well-being. Born in Pakistan and raised in Dearborn, Michigan, she grew up in a working-class family that instilled in her the values of compassion, education, and service. Amina’s journey from immigrant child to U.S. Senator is a story of resilience and purpose. After earning her medical degree and PhD in Public Health, she devoted her career to addressing healthcare disparities and improving access to quality care across Michigan’s communities.
Before entering the Senate, Dr. Khalid worked as a physician and public health advocate in Wayne County, where she became widely respected for her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her calm, evidence-based communication and tireless efforts to protect vulnerable populations earned her national recognition. These experiences inspired her to pursue public office, determined to reform healthcare systems and elevate the voices of underserved citizens at the federal level.
Since taking office, Senator Khalid has championed landmark legislation aimed at expanding affordable healthcare coverage, increasing mental health resources, and strengthening protections for women’s reproductive rights. She continues to advocate for environmental justice and immigrant rights, recognizing the intersection between health, opportunity, and community resilience.
Despite her demanding role, Senator Khalid remains deeply connected to her roots. She frequently returns to Dearborn to meet with local residents, volunteer at community health fairs, and mentor young women pursuing careers in science and public service. Grounded, empathetic, and visionary, Dr. Amina Khalid represents a new generation of leadership dedicated to building a healthier, more equitable America.
