Workforce Housing Safety and Rehabilitation Act

This bill establishes a competitive grant program through the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help cities and public-private housing partnerships rehabilitate aging, code-compliant apartment buildings and preserve affordable units for working households. Grants may support fire and electrical safety upgrades, lead and mold remediation, energy-efficiency improvements, accessibility modifications, and essential repairs, provided recipients maintain affordability requirements and prevent unjustified displacement during construction. Priority shall be given to projects with local matching funds, clear tenant-protection plans, and commitments to preserve workforce housing for at least 20 years.
