Workforce Housing and Community Development Act

This bill would establish a competitive grant program through the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help municipalities expand workforce housing near jobs, schools, and public transportation. Grants would support updated zoning and permitting systems, infrastructure improvements, and the construction or preservation of affordable rental and starter homes, with priority for communities that adopt transparent, time-limited permitting processes and demonstrate local matching funds. The program would require fair-housing compliance, public reporting, and coordination with state and regional housing plans.
