Western Forest Stewardship and State Partnership Act

This bill would establish a voluntary pilot program allowing Idaho and other eligible western states to enter cooperative management agreements with the federal government for federally managed forestlands, subject to federal environmental, tribal, and public-access laws. Participating states would coordinate sustainable timber production, wildfire-risk reduction, watershed protection, and rural economic development through science-based plans, transparent public reporting, and federal oversight, while ensuring that state management authority does not impair treaty rights or national conservation obligations.
