To reduce inflationary pressure in rural states and lower the cost of home construction and repairs, this bill would expand domestic timber and wood-products supply chains by increasing competitive grants and low-interest financing for sawmills, kiln drying, wood processing, and transportation upgrades in rural areas; direct the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management to accelerate review and implementation of hazardous-fuels reduction, salvage, and routine forest management projects consistent with existing environmental laws; and create a temporary tax incentive for the domestic production and purchase of qualified lumber, plywood, and other essential wood building materials used in residential construction, rehabilitation, and disaster repair.
