Full text
This bill proposes an increase in state funding for rural law enforcement agencies across Montana to address the rising crime rates and enhance community safety. By allocating additional resources for training, equipment, and personnel, we aim to empower our local law enforcement to effectively combat crime and foster a safer environment for all Montanans. This initiative reflects our commitment to supporting the values of faith, family, and freedom that are foundational to our rural communities.
Additional grants shall be awarded to municipalities and county governments, available over the next six months, who approve additional funding mechanisms for improving law enforcement or emergency personnel retention, pay, benefits, equipment, and/or recruitment. The grants shall be available up to 45% of the estimated amount of increase provided by the municipality. The grants shall be awarded by the Montana Department of Justice. This authority shall expire six months after the enactment of this bill, with all unobligated funds returned to the Montana Treasury.
