Speech Text

Good evening, everybody. I haven't known Royce Whitman for decades. I haven't been in Washington long enough to pretend otherwise. But I know the type. I spent most of my career in business looking at institutions, looking at risk, and trying to figure out where things go wrong before they become a crisis. And one thing I learned pretty quickly is that you can tell a lot about an organization by the people who keep their heads when everybody else is losing theirs. Royce Whitman is one of those people. He's steady. He's prepared. He listens. And when he tells you where he stands, you don't have to spend the next three days wondering whether he's going to change his mind because somebody on television got angry. I respect that. Royce spent years as a prosecutor and a judge before he ever got to the Senate. He understands that words matter, that laws matter, and that decisions have consequences long after the press conference is over. We agree on a lot. We both believe government should be limited, taxpayers deserve accountability, American energy production matters, and Washington ought to make it easier for people to build businesses and create jobs. But what I appreciate most about Royce isn't a policy position. It's that he's serious about the job. He doesn't need to be the loudest person in the room. He doesn't need every fight to become a spectacle. He just gets to work. And right now, I think we could use a little more of that. Texas has a good senator in Royce Whitman. I'm proud to support him, and I'm proud to stand with him tonight.
