Legislation
From hopper to enacted law, here is how state bills move.
Where to work
Browse and act on bills in /politics/state-legislature. Bill pages include debate threads, tallies, and action buttons (vote, sign/veto if governor).
Lifecycle
- Hopper → Scheduled: bill is filed and placed on the calendar.
- Debate: members discuss in the bill space; default 72h window.
- Voting: opens after debate; default 72h voting window.
- Result: seat-weighted tally sets status to passed or failed when the window closes.
- Governor review: passed bills move to the governor for up to 72h.
- Outcome: sign (enacted), veto (goes to override voting), or pocket pass (auto-enact after deadline).
- Override (planned): 2/3 threshold during override_voting if vetoed.
Voting rules
- Seat-weighted: each legislator’s vote weight matches their seat size.
- One vote per member per bill; you may change it while voting is open.
- Results post automatically when the voting window closes.
Governor actions
- Sign: bill enacts immediately.
- Veto: bill enters override_voting (planned 2/3 threshold).
- No action: after the review deadline, the bill pocket-passes and enacts.
