Kevin Yu grew up in Fremont, California, the son of Chinese-American immigrants who worked long hours to provide for their family. From a young age, Kevin balanced academics and athletics with discipline, excelling as both a cornerback on the field and a data whiz in the classroom. Though he lacked the elite physical traits of his peers, his football IQ and film-study habits were legendary at Cal, where he earned a scholarship and majored in Data Science. Known by his coaches as someone who “sees routes before they happen,” Kevin became a standout nickel corner through precise technique and relentless preparation. Now renting a modest apartment in Berkeley, Kevin is driven by a thirst for knowledge and self-mastery. He volunteers in mentorship programs, helping young athletes find balance between sports and school, and has a quiet but strategic personality. Though intensely focused, Kevin wrestles with a deep fear of failure—especially the idea of letting down his community and family. Despite this, he remains resilient, driven by purpose, and continues to see the field—both literal and metaphorical—in ways few others can.
