Biography
Everett Caldbeck built his reputation the old-fashioned way—grinding through the ranks of college football with a relentless focus on stopping the run. A native of Ada County, Idaho, Caldbeck played linebacker at Boise State University in the early 1990s, where he developed a deep understanding of gap discipline and front alignment. After a brief stint as a graduate assistant, he began a long climb through the coaching profession.
His early career included defensive line coaching roles at University of Idaho and Utah State University, where he earned recognition for turning undersized fronts into disciplined, high-effort units. Caldbeck’s breakout came during his tenure at University of Wisconsin, serving as a run game coordinator and linebackers coach. There, he helped mold multiple top-10 rushing defenses, emphasizing physicality and assignment soundness against Big Ten power-run offenses.
He later returned west, joining Boise State as defensive coordinator, where his defenses consistently ranked among the best in limiting yards per carry and explosive run plays. Known for his film study habits and demanding practice structure, Caldbeck became respected as a “coach’s coach”—someone who could teach scheme from both defensive and offensive perspectives.
After a decade coordinating at the FBS level, Caldbeck transitioned briefly into a senior defensive analyst role with University of Washington, expanding his exposure to spread offenses and modern RPO-heavy systems. This experience refined his ability to adapt traditional run fits to contemporary offensive trends.
Now at 53, Caldbeck enters the DFL hiring pool as a veteran defensive mind with a clear identity: control the line of scrimmage, eliminate breakdowns, and force offenses into uncomfortable situations. His units may not always be flashy, but they are disciplined, physical, and rarely out of position—making him a strong candidate for any team seeking defensive stability and toughness.
