Biography
Brock Tullis is a hardened, no-nonsense defensive mind forged in the football culture of Wyoming. Raised in a working-class family in Casper, he grew up around the physical, run-heavy style of play that defines much of the Mountain West. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wyoming, where he played linebacker in the late 1990s, Tullis quickly transitioned into coaching.
He began his career at the high school level in Natrona County, building a reputation for aggressive, disciplined defenses that shut down rushing attacks. His success earned him a graduate assistant role back at Wyoming, where he worked under multiple defensive coordinators and refined his philosophy: stop the run first, dictate physicality, and force offenses into uncomfortable passing situations.
Tullis climbed the coaching ladder with stops as a linebackers coach at Montana State, defensive line coach at Colorado State, and eventually co-defensive coordinator at Boise State. During his tenure, his units consistently ranked near the top of their conferences in rushing defense and tackles for loss. Known for his ability to develop tough, fundamentally sound front-seven players, Tullis emphasizes gap discipline, tackling efficiency, and relentless pursuit.
By his early 40s, he secured a full defensive coordinator role at Utah State, where his defense became one of the most feared run-stopping units in the Group of Five. His schemes are straightforward but brutally effective—stack the box, win at the line of scrimmage, and dare opponents to beat you through the air.
Off the field, Tullis is a workaholic who spends countless hours reviewing film and mentoring younger coaches. He is respected as a strong leader but can be intense and controlling, sometimes clashing with offensive-minded head coaches. His ultimate goal is to command full control of a defense at the highest level, making him a prime candidate for a DFL defensive coordinator role.
