Stark Industries Launches “Cool Houston” Neighborhood Heat Relief Initiative

Stark Industries will invest $75,000 to help protect Houston residents from dangerous extreme heat through a new initiative, Cool Houston.

Working with the Houston Food Bank, local neighborhood organizations, and community centers, Stark Industries will establish 10 neighborhood Heat Relief Hubs in areas where residents face elevated heat risk and limited access to reliable cooling.

Each participating location will receive funding for portable cooling equipment, drinking-water stations, emergency supplies, and extended operating hours during periods of dangerous heat.

The program will prioritize neighborhoods with large populations of older adults, lower-income households, residents with disabilities, outdoor workers, and households experiencing unreliable or inadequate air conditioning.

Stark Industries will also distribute 500 free Heat Ready kits containing reusable water containers, cooling towels, electrolyte supplies, sunscreen, and practical information on recognizing and responding to heat-related illness.

Free community sessions will teach residents how to recognize heat exhaustion and heat stroke, protect vulnerable family members, prepare for an air-conditioning failure, and identify available cooling resources.

Stark Industries and its partners will publish the 10 participating locations, operating hours, eligibility requirements for distributed supplies, and services available at each site before the program begins.

After 60 days, Stark Industries will report hub attendance, kits distributed, neighborhoods reached, program spending, periods of extended operation, and any significant gaps identified by participating organizations.

If demand exceeds available resources, funding and supplies will be prioritized toward locations demonstrating the greatest combination of heat exposure, financial vulnerability, and limited access to reliable cooling.

Cool Houston is intentionally limited in scale. It will not solve Houston's extreme-heat challenge, but it is designed to make practical protection easier to access in 10 neighborhoods where additional resources can make an immediate difference.
