Stark Industries Launches $1 Million Texas Energy Resilience Challenge

Stark Industries will commit $1 million to identify and pilot solutions that can make Texas energy infrastructure more reliable during extreme weather through the inaugural Texas Energy Resilience Challenge in Houston.

Working with the University of Houston, Rice University, Greater Houston Partnership, and Houston-area energy and engineering organizations, Stark Industries will invite university teams, startups, engineers, and researchers from across Texas to compete.

Teams will develop practical solutions in four areas: grid reliability, backup power, industrial energy efficiency, and rapid recovery following hurricanes and severe weather.

Ten finalists will receive $25,000 development grants and mentorship from participating engineers and industry experts. Finalists will then present working proposals at a free public showcase at Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center.

One team will receive a $500,000 implementation award to pilot its solution with an appropriate Texas community or participating industry partner. Remaining funds will support finalist grants, testing, technical assistance, and implementation costs.

The competition will not be judged on technological novelty alone. Proposals must demonstrate affordability, scalability, measurable resilience improvements, and a realistic path to implementation.

Stark Industries will publish the finalists, judging criteria, funding allocations, and results of the winning pilot. One year after the award, the company will publicly report whether the winning technology achieved its promised results—and what was learned if it did not.

The challenge will culminate in Houston, but its ambition is statewide:
