Safe Dallas: Senior Home Safety Initiative

Stark Industries is committing $50,000 to provide free home-safety improvements for 100 older Dallas residents.

Working with Dallas-area senior-service organizations, community partners, and qualified local contractors, Safe Dallas will provide 100 households with up to $500 in practical safety improvements designed to help older residents remain safe and independent in their homes.

Improvements may include grab bars, improved lighting, non-slip surfaces, handrails, smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors, and other modest repairs identified through a standardized home-safety assessment.

Priority will go to lower-income residents age 65 and older who have mobility limitations, live alone, or cannot reasonably afford needed safety improvements. Selection criteria and the assessment checklist will be published before applications open. The program will not operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Participating residents will pay nothing for approved improvements. If an assessment identifies needs beyond the program's $500-per-household scope, partners will help residents identify appropriate community resources rather than promise repairs the program cannot afford.

Stark Industries will publish a 60-day report showing applications received, households served, types of improvements completed, average spending per household, neighborhoods reached, and unmet demand, while protecting residents' privacy.
