This bill establishes a state Immigration Status Verification and Cooperation Program requiring state and local public agencies to verify an individual’s immigration or work-authorization status only when authorized or required by federal law and relevant to the service, benefit, employment, or transaction at issue. Agencies shall use available federal verification systems, protect personal information, provide notice and an opportunity to correct records when feasible, and refer credible evidence of identity or labor fraud to the appropriate federal authorities; the bill does not authorize independent immigration enforcement or deny emergency services required by law.
