This act requires state and local agencies administering public benefits to verify applicants’ eligibility and lawful status through available federal verification systems, consistent with federal and state law, and to respond to lawful requests from federal immigration authorities. The act shall not restrict access to emergency medical care, emergency shelter, disaster assistance, or other services required by law, and agencies must provide clear notice of eligibility decisions, an opportunity to correct records or appeal, and safeguards against discrimination based on race, ethnicity, language, or national origin.
