Full text

This bill requires all Alabama employers to use the federal E-Verify system, or a successor standardized electronic employment-verification system, for each new hire, with reasonable procedures for correcting tentative mismatches and protecting employee information. State contractors and subcontractors must certify compliance as a condition of doing business with Alabama; a contractor that knowingly employs unauthorized workers may face civil penalties, contract ineligibility, or suspension after notice and an opportunity to appeal. The measure does not authorize immigration enforcement by state employers and applies only to employment-verification and state contracting requirements.
