Workforce Housing Near Employment Centers Act

This bill would establish a five-year, competitive federal grant program administered jointly by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Defense to support the development or preservation of affordable workforce housing near military installations and major employment centers. Grants would be awarded to states, local governments, housing authorities, and nonprofit or private partners for projects serving working families, veterans, and military personnel, with priority for communities facing severe housing-cost burdens and demonstrated local matching funds. The program would not create a new housing entitlement and would require recipients to maintain affordability standards, report outcomes, and comply with applicable fair-housing and labor laws.
