Workforce Housing and Transit Communities Act

This bill would establish a competitive federal grant program through the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help states, local governments, public housing agencies, and nonprofit developers preserve existing affordable rental homes and construct new affordable housing near major transit stations and employment centers. Grants would prioritize projects serving working- and middle-class households, require long-term affordability protections, and support energy-efficient construction, accessibility, and coordination with local transportation planning. The bill would authorize funding subject to annual appropriations and require recipients to report on units preserved or created, affordability levels, and household access to jobs and transit.
