Civil Rights Enforcement and Equal Access Act

A bill to strengthen federal civil rights protections by increasing funding and staffing for the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s fair housing enforcement offices; establishing faster investigation and case-processing deadlines for complaints involving discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations; expanding access to legal aid and attorney’s fees for prevailing complainants; enhancing penalties for repeated or willful violations of federal civil rights law; and requiring annual public reporting to Congress on enforcement activity, case outcomes, and barriers to equal access to public services.
