OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI — North Mississippi singer-songwriter Madison Hillman will return to her hometown of Oxford for a special Fourth of July community concert, performing a set that includes her most recent releases: “Two Hundred Fifty Years,” “Yazoo Queen,” and “Sunflower County Rain.”

For Hillman, the Oxford performance carries particular personal meaning. Raised in the city and shaped by the musical traditions of North Mississippi and the wider Delta, Hillman developed her sound between local coffeehouses, family influences, and the blues clubs of nearby Clarksdale.

The set will feature “Two Hundred Fifty Years,” Hillman’s rocking Delta blues reflection on America as an unfinished promise. Built around distorted bottleneck slide guitar, live drums, warm bass, and Hillman’s smoky alto, the song approaches the nation’s 250th anniversary with seriousness, grit, and Mississippi-grounded perspective rather than easy triumph.

Hillman will also perform “Yazoo Queen,” a dark, hypnotic Delta blues-rock track driven by overdriven slide guitar, juke-joint energy, and swampy Mississippi atmosphere. With its mythic river imagery and harder edge, the song represents one of the bolder turns in Hillman’s recent work.

Starting out the featured songs will be “Sunflower County Rain,” a moody alt-country ballad built on acoustic guitar, subtle slide textures, brushed percussion, and warm bass. The song’s quiet heartbreak and house-haunted imagery offer a more intimate counterpoint to the force of Hillman’s blues-rock material.

“Playing these songs in Oxford on the Fourth means a lot to me,” Hillman said. “This is home. These songs come from Mississippi roads, Mississippi weather, Mississippi history, and the people who shaped me. To bring them back here on a night like this feels personal in a different way.”
