Delta Blues select running back Devin Chapa with third overall pick

· Madison Hillman

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE — The Delta Blues selected running back Devin Chapa with the third overall pick in this season's DFL Draft, adding one of the class’s most physical and determined offensive playmakers to the roster.

A native of Wise County, Virginia, Chapa became a hometown standout through his explosive running ability, field vision and refusal to go down on first contact. His bruising style and relentless approach made him the pride of his small Appalachian community, where Friday night football remains a local tradition.

“Devin Chapa represents exactly what we want the Delta Blues to be,” team owner Madison Hillman said. “He is tough, disciplined and dependable. He runs with power, but he also has the patience and awareness to find the right opening. Most importantly, he understands that success has to be earned.”

After graduating from high school, Chapa remained close to home and worked customer-service jobs to help support his family while continuing to pursue a professional football career. He trained nearly every morning before work and spent his evenings studying film, running drills and refining his game.

That discipline helped Chapa maintain peak physical condition despite being outside a traditional college football program. Delta Blues scouts were particularly impressed by his conditioning, balance through contact, competitive temperament and ability to remain composed when plays break down.

Chapa joins a Delta Blues team looking to build upon a strong finish to its most recent season. After opening the year slowly, the Blues won their final two games and scored 223 points across the campaign. The organization believes Chapa can provide a dependable foundation for its rushing attack while helping establish a more physical offensive identity.

Chapa will be introduced at the Delta Blues’ Shelby County headquarters before joining the team for rookie workouts.
