Madison Hillman releases new single “Yazoo Queen”

OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI — North Mississippi singer-songwriter Madison Hillman has released her new single, “Yazoo Queen,” a Delta blues-rock track that pushes her sound deeper into the raw, electric edge of Mississippi music.

Driven by a bottleneck slide guitar, drums, and Hillman’s smoky alto, Yazoo Queen channels the atmosphere of the Mississippi Delta into something both mythic and immediate. Swampy and restless, the song blends Hillman’s haunting storytelling instincts with a harder blues-rock attack, while preserving the raw analog grit that has become central to her sound.

Set against the river-dark landscape of the Delta, Yazoo Queen unfolds like a piece of regional folklore: part warning, part apparition, part fever dream. The single draws on Hillman’s longstanding interest in her Mississippi, but leans into a more forceful sonic palette than some of her earlier, more restrained material.

“Yazoo Queen came from wanting to write something darker and heavier without losing the Delta underneath it,” Hillman said. “I wanted it to feel like somebody you can’t explain and probably shouldn’t follow.”

The release marks another step in Hillman’s ongoing blend of traditional Delta blues technique and modern singer-songwriter sensibility. Raised in Oxford and shaped by early performances in Clarksdale blues clubs, Hillman has built a reputation for music that feels rooted in Mississippi tradition while remaining emotionally contemporary.

With its dark feminine mystique, hypnotic groove, and unmistakable Mississippi setting, Yazoo Queen stands as one of Hillman’s boldest releases to date.

“Yazoo Queen” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
