Delta blues artist Madison Hillman has released two new singles, "Tall Grass Blues" and "North Mississippi Moon," marking her first new music of the year. The songs reflect Hillman's distinctive style, which combines Delta blues with modern Americana storytelling, rooted in the landscapes and traditions of North Mississippi. "Tall Grass Blues" features imagery from rural backroads and overgrown fields, evoking the feeling of memories lingering in familiar places. In contrast, "North Mississippi Moon" unfolds beneath a quiet night sky, exploring themes of distance, regret, and the restless pull of the road. Hillman described the inspiration for the songs as stemming from her experiences driving around the Delta late at night, where the land seems to hold onto untold stories. The recordings emphasize atmosphere and emotional restraint, utilizing resonator guitar, subtle slide work, and Hillman's smoky alto vocal style. The tracks were recorded in a stripped-down session that highlights acoustic guitar textures and a slow-burning rhythm section, aiming to evoke the intimate feel of traditional Delta blues performances while maintaining a contemporary sound. Hillman, who grew up in Oxford, Mississippi, has been influenced by the deep musical traditions of the Delta. She learned guitar at age 13 after discovering an old resonator guitar in a pawn shop. Over the years, she has developed a reputation for her haunting slide guitar style, blending traditional techniques with modern singer-songwriter sensibilities. Both "Tall Grass Blues" and "North Mississippi Moon" are now available on all major streaming platforms, offering listeners a glimpse into Hillman's evolving artistry.
