The Dominion Football League has announced a $30 million league-wide media rights agreement for Season 7, according to a press release from Commissioner Kyle Fitzgerald.
The agreement will distribute $2.5 million in television revenue to each of the league’s 12 franchises. The DFL said the payments will be shared equally, regardless of a team’s market size or number of television appearances.
The new deal follows a $21.6 million media agreement in Season 6, which provided $1.8 million to each club. The league characterized the new total as an increase of about 39 percent over last season’s media revenue.
Fitzgerald said the agreement reflects continued growth in the league’s competition and organizational development. He pointed to player recruitment, coaching experience and the operational development of clubs as signs of the league’s progress.
“Season 6 proved that the DFL’s growth was about more than putting teams in new cities,” Fitzgerald said in the release. “The level of competition has risen dramatically.”
The DFL will keep its membership at 12 franchises for Season 7. Fitzgerald said the decision will allow the league to build on its existing national footprint while focusing on the quality of its on-field product.
Equal revenue sharing remains a central feature of the agreement. Under the announced structure, every franchise will receive the same media-rights payment even if teams differ in audience size or broadcast exposure.
“That equal distribution is important to us,” Fitzgerald said. “When the DFL grows, every franchise should have the resources to grow with it.”
The league said the Season 7 agreement is ten times the $3 million distributed to clubs two seasons ago. The announcement did not identify the media partner or provide additional terms of the agreement.
Fitzgerald said the league now intends to focus on improving its competitive level and organizational strength as it enters Season 7.
