Danville DFL Team Relocates to Charlotte as Monarchs for Season 5

The Danville Ironworks will relocate to Charlotte, North Carolina, becoming the Charlotte Monarchs for the DFL's fifth season, as announced by team owner Gary Hurst.

The Dominion Football League (DFL) announced that the Danville Ironworks will relocate to Charlotte, North Carolina, beginning in Season 5. The franchise will be rebranded as the Charlotte Monarchs, marking a significant transition for the team as the league embarks on its first major expansion phase. Team owner Gary Hurst emphasized the strategic nature of the move, stating that Charlotte is one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States and an excellent market for sports. “As the DFL expands, we believe this move positions the team for long-term success while bringing exciting professional football to a passionate new fanbase,” Hurst said. The Monarchs will aim to establish a strong presence in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. The team will play its home games at a newly prepared 5,000-seat stadium in Charlotte, designed to create an energetic atmosphere for fans. The new identity of the franchise will be inspired by Charlotte’s nickname, the “Queen City,” featuring team colors of royal purple and gold. Previously, the franchise competed as the Danville Ironworks during its first four seasons in the DFL. Hurst expressed gratitude to the Danville community for their support, acknowledging the important role the city played in the early history of the team and the league. “We are deeply appreciative of the community, the fans, and everyone who supported the Ironworks during the league’s first seasons,” he stated. The Charlotte Monarchs will begin their inaugural season in the DFL’s fifth season, with the schedule to be announced at a later date. This relocation and rebranding signify a new chapter for the franchise as it seeks to engage a new fanbase in Charlotte.
