Dominion Football League Rebrands as DFL, Expands Nationally for Season 5

The Dominion Football League rebrands as DFL and announces national expansion with a new competitive structure for Season 5, featuring teams across multiple states.

The Dominion Football League (DFL) has officially announced its rebranding and national expansion for Season 5, moving beyond its Virginia origins. The league, which has experienced rapid growth since its inception, will now include teams in Washington, D.C., Louisville, Memphis, and Tampa Bay, thereby extending its reach across major markets in the eastern United States. The DFL will introduce a two-conference structure for the upcoming season. The Commonwealth Conference will retain teams from Virginia, including Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Charlottesville, and Roanoke, while the National Conference will feature teams from Charlotte, D.C., Louisville, Memphis, and Tampa Bay. This new format aims to preserve the league's original identity while embracing its expansion. Each team will compete in a 13-game regular season, facing their four conference opponents twice and all five teams from the opposite conference once. This structure is designed to enhance conference rivalries while ensuring that all teams have exposure to the entire league. A highlight of the season will be Week 13, designated as Rivalry Week. Key matchups will include the Norfolk Admirals against the Virginia Beach Breakers, as well as Richmond versus Charlottesville, Roanoke against Charlotte, Louisville facing Memphis, and D.C. taking on Tampa Bay. The postseason will consist of four teams: the champions of each conference and two wildcards. The playoffs will feature two semifinal games leading to the DFL Championship Game. Commissioner Fitzgerald remarked, “This is a defining moment for the league. We’re building something bigger while staying true to what made the DFL work from the start.” The rebranding and expansion reflect the league's ambition to grow its footprint and enhance the competitive landscape of professional football in the region.
