The Delta Blues have signed offensive lineman Rico Martinez to a two-year contract extension worth $145,000, the team announced. The deal will pay Martinez $72,500 per season and keeps him in Memphis for the next two seasons.

Martinez, a native of Yuma, Arizona, plays right guard for the Blues. The organization described him as one of the league’s more physical blockers and said his return provides continuity along an offensive line that has placed increased emphasis on the running game this season.

According to the press release, Martinez began developing his football career at the junior-college level before transferring to Arizona State. He was also a high-school wrestler, an experience the team linked to his physical approach as a lineman.

The Blues said Martinez has built a reputation as a punishing run blocker, particularly at the point of attack. The organization also cited his preparation, consistency and willingness to play through contact as traits that have earned him respect within the locker room.

“Rico sets the tone for the way we want to play,” an organization spokesperson said in the release. “He is tough, dependable and completely committed to his teammates. He does not need to be the loudest player in the room to be a leader.”

The extension comes as Memphis continues to rely on a productive ground game. The team said rookie running back Devin Chapa, the No. 3 overall draft pick, has rushed for 1,111 yards and 17 touchdowns so far this season.

Martinez’s role at right guard places him among the interior linemen expected to help create running lanes for Chapa and support the Blues’ broader offensive approach. The release did not disclose further contract terms beyond the length and total value of the agreement.

By retaining Martinez, the Delta Blues have secured an established starter for the next two seasons while maintaining a veteran presence on the offensive line.
