An act relating to state cooperation with federal immigration enforcement; requiring county and municipal detention facilities, upon receipt of a lawful federal immigration detainer or administrative warrant for an inmate charged with or convicted of a criminal offense, to provide timely notice of the inmate’s scheduled release and to maintain custody for a limited period as authorized by federal law to permit transfer to federal authorities; requiring standardized transfer and recordkeeping protocols, compliance reporting to the state, and good-faith adherence by local officials and contractors; prohibiting any local policy that materially restricts such notification or transfer cooperation; and providing that implementation shall be carried out consistent with constitutional requirements and existing state and federal law, in order to promote public safety, uniform enforcement, and Florida’s sovereign interest in setting statewide standards for criminal justice cooperation.
