We watch, but we don’t learn.
 We’ve got a lot to say…
 but we don’t say it.
Silence.

 It isn’t harmless.

 chaining our progress,
 dragging us down into the same cycles
 we swore we’d never repeat.
Do you know what silence feels like to me?
 It feels like betrayal.
 It feels like disappointment that burns deep,
 because so many people died
 so we could stand,
 so we could speak,
 so we could breathe freedom into our children’s lungs.
And yet here we are—
 with all their sacrifices stacked beneath our feet—
 standing still,
 doing nothing,
 watching the world burn from the comfort of the sidelines.
 And I can’t help but ask:
 What was all their blood for,
 if silence is the only thing we’ve got to give back?
Our silence makes me angry.
 Because silence is a lie we tell ourselves.
 We say, “It’s not my fight.
 It’s not my problem.
 It’s not my place.”
 But history doesn’t care about excuses.
 History only cares about action.
 And history will write down our silence,
 just as loud as their screams.
I think of the bridges crossed,
 the hoses, the dogs, the jail cells,
 the names we quote in February like slogans—
 Dr. King, Malcolm, Fannie Lou, Medgar—
 They did not risk their lives for us to be quiet.
 They did not march for us to scroll and sigh.
 They did not die for us to settle into silence.
And that silence?
 It’s killing us.
 Not with bullets,
 not with ropes,
 but with delay,
 with apathy,
 with the erosion of everything we say we stand for.
Silence is not progress.
 Silence is not peace.
 Silence is the sound of chains clinking back into place.
 And every day we choose it,
 we dishonor those who fought to break them.
So I ask you—
 When will we speak?
 When will we break this cycle?
 When will our silence finally end?
Because if we keep watching,
 if we keep waiting,
 if we keep standing idly by—
 then we’re not just silent.
 We’re complicit.
 And history will not forgive us.
