Player rating comes from position fit
Free agents receive a position rating from the skills weighted for that position. The live position configuration is the source of those weights, so two players with the same general skill average can have different value at a particular position.
Scouting reduces uncertainty
Scouting costs 5 Energy and reveals the exact rating. Without scouting, the displayed salary range is widened on both sides by at least $2,500 or 8% of market salary, whichever is greater.
Negotiation is a contest
Starting a contract negotiation costs 10 Energy. Salary expectations depend on rating, position, term, and the player’s Financial Acumen relative to the owner’s. Financially savvy players ask for more and concede less; a financially skilled owner improves leverage.

How results are calculated
These rules come from the game calculation. Live market values and event-specific settings can still change the final result where noted.
Market salary
Rule
[$45,000 + $110,000 × (position rating ÷ 100)] × position multiplier × [1 − 3% × (contract years − 1)].
- Position multipliers: QB 1.25, OL and DL 1.05, WR 1.00, RB/LB/DB 0.95.
- Longer terms reduce the annual market baseline by 3% for each year after the first.
- The negotiation ask and walk-away point then move based on both sides’ Financial Acumen.
Worked example
An 80-rated QB has a one-year baseline of ($45,000 + $88,000) ×1.25 = $166,250 before negotiation adjustments.
Unscouted uncertainty
Rule
Displayed range widens by max($2,500, 8% of market salary) below and above the informed range.
- Scouting does not change the player’s true value; it makes the estimate more precise.
- The exact live offer still depends on player and owner negotiation skills.
