Michigan Public Safety Coordination and Violent Offender Accountability Act

The people of the State of Michigan enact that the Department of State Police shall establish a standardized voluntary crime data-sharing and analytic support program with county sheriffs, municipal police departments, prosecutors, and courts to improve timely reporting on violent crime patterns, warrant status, and repeat violent offender case outcomes; that participation shall require written data-use standards, audit trails, privacy safeguards, and procedures to correct erroneous records; that no person shall be deprived of any legal right based solely on inclusion in a tracking system; that the department shall prioritize competitive grant support for evidence-based enforcement, witness protection, case clearance, and violence interruption efforts in jurisdictions with persistently high violent crime rates; and that an annual public report shall measure participation, clearance rates, recidivism trends, response times, and grant performance to ensure accountability and due process.
