Homes Near Jobs and Transit Act

This bill would establish a competitive grant program administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help states, local governments, tribes, and nonprofit partners convert vacant commercial and public buildings into safe, energy-efficient homes and expand attainable housing near major employment centers and public transit. Grants would prioritize projects that reduce permitting barriers, preserve affordability for working families, leverage private and local investment, and serve communities with documented housing shortages, while requiring prevailing-wage standards, fair housing compliance, and regular public reporting on costs and units created.
