- My opponent asked during his recent Washington, D.C. fundraiser: "why hold a fundraiser here in Washington, DC, for a Virginia gubernatorial race?" I can answer that for him. He's so desperate for money that he's willing to cowtow to the special interests up in D.C. rather than your needs. There's a reason Washington, D.C. isn't a part of Virginia.
- I will spend my time and energy as your Governor focusing on local issues. My opponent has spent this election cycle drinking tall glasses of Chardonnay with Washington special interests. I think the choice could not be more clear. Do you want to elect the candidate who hasn't left the state or the one who has spent nights in D.C. trying to get special interest dollars?
- The future of our children's education is at stake in this election. We need an experienced hand to lead this state through today's challenges. I believe I am that person. Under me, we will push back against those who think we should only be teaching the positive parts of American history, we will work to put a police officer in every school to protect our kids, and we will incentivize our good teachers to keep them in the profession.
- My opponent seems to attack me for my energy policy when we agree on an "all of the above approach". We do disagree on one important point however: for the moment an all of the above approach has to include natural gas and other non-renewables. The reality is that at least a plurality of the energy production here in Virginia still comes from those sources. We just can't turn off that spigot yet. Yes, nuclear power and certain renewables are a big part of Virginia's future. As you all know though, major change is slow. It can't happen overnight in the way my opponent acts like it can in his stump speeches.
