Thank you, Boston! Thank you! It’s good to be home.
To my family, my friends, and all of you who’ve supported me through every step of this journey — thank you from the bottom of my heart. I see people here from every corner of our great Commonwealth, and it fills me with hope. Today, we stand together, united by a shared belief that our best days are still ahead.
Now, many of you know me. You’ve seen me fight for this city, for this state, and for working families across Massachusetts. We’ve accomplished a lot together, but today, I stand before you because I know that our work is not done. I stand before you because our nation is at a crossroads, and it’s time for new leadership. That is why, today, I am proud to announce that I am running for President of the United States!
[Cheers erupt from the crowd. Callahan smiles and gestures for calm]
Now, let me tell you why.
Our country is in need of a new vision. We see it in every community — from Boston to Birmingham, from San Francisco to Scranton. The divides in our politics, the struggles of working families, the challenges facing our children and their future — they’re real. But they don’t have to define us. We are better than this. We must be better than this.
For too long, Washington has been stuck in the same cycle of partisan bickering and political gridlock, while the American people are left waiting. We’re waiting for leaders who will tackle the real problems we face. Waiting for someone who will actually put people over politics.
Well, I’ve spent my life getting things done. I’ve seen firsthand how real leadership can make a difference. As mayor of Boston, we grew our economy, improved our schools, and transformed our public transportation system — because that’s what leadership looks like. As a state senator, I fought for criminal justice reform, healthcare access, and affordable housing. And now, as your governor, I am just getting started.
But the problems we face can’t be solved by one state, one city, or one community alone. They require national leadership — and a President who listens.
My platform is simple: I believe in an America that works for everyone. Not just for the wealthy, not just for those with influence — but for every single American.
First, we need to get our economy working for working people again. It’s time for an economy where every job is a good job, with good pay, strong benefits, and dignity for those who do the work. We’re going to invest in infrastructure like we’ve never seen before — rebuilding our roads, modernizing our railways, and creating millions of good-paying jobs through clean energy.
We’re going to lead the world in clean energy, because the stakes are too high to sit on the sidelines. Climate change isn’t just a challenge — it’s an opportunity. An opportunity to create jobs, to protect our planet, and to leave a better world for our children.
Next, we must confront our healthcare crisis. Too many Americans are still priced out of the care they need, and that’s unacceptable. Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. We will build on the Affordable Care Act, expand access, and introduce a public option so every American has affordable, quality care.
But it’s not just about healthcare. It’s about ensuring that every child in this country has access to a world-class education, no matter their zip code. We’re going to make community colleges tuition-free, we’re going to invest in vocational training, and we’re going to help relieve the crushing burden of student debt for those who give back to their communities.
Now, let’s talk about justice. Too many of our fellow citizens — particularly in Black and brown communities — live in fear of injustice. That’s why I’m committed to reforming our criminal justice system, from top to bottom. We will end mass incarceration for non-violent offenders, and we will work to rebuild trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
And let me say this loud and clear: Everyone’s vote should count. We will protect voting rights in every state, for every citizen. We will stop the attacks on democracy, and we will restore fairness to our elections.
[The crowd cheers, and Callahan pauses to let the excitement build before continuing]
This is the America I believe in: fair, just, and united.
But we can’t get there with more of the same politics. We need real solutions, not empty promises. We need leadership that brings us together — leadership that fights for everyone, not just those at the top.
You know, when I think about why I’m running, I think about the values my parents taught me. My father was a union leader, my mother a public school teacher, and they showed me that hard work, integrity, and fairness are the foundation of a strong society. That’s the America I want to build — one where if you work hard and play by the rules, you can get ahead. Where every voice matters. Where we lift each other up, rather than tearing each other down.
I’ve spent my career bringing people together — Republicans, Democrats, Independents — because that’s how we solve problems. That’s how we get things done. And let me tell you, I am ready to get things done for America.
The challenges are great, but the opportunities are greater. Together, we can build an economy that works for all. Together, we can guarantee healthcare for every American. Together, we can combat climate change, expand educational opportunities, and make our country fairer, stronger, and more just.
And yes, together, we can heal this country. We can bring America back together.
This campaign is not just about me. It’s about us. It’s about you. It’s about every American who’s been told that change is impossible — because together, we can make it possible.
So, I’m asking for your support. I’m asking you to join me in this fight for our future. If you believe that America’s best days are ahead of us, if you believe that we can build a country that works for everyone, then I ask you to stand with me.
Because together, we can win this fight. Together, we can lead America to a brighter, fairer, stronger future.
Thank you, Boston. Thank you, America. Let’s get to work!
