Thank you all for being here tonight. It’s truly an honor to be in Los Angeles, surrounded by friends and allies who believe in the vision we’re building for a stronger, more inclusive Texas. I know what some of you might be wondering: why host a fundraiser for a Texas Senate campaign in Los Angeles? The answer is simple. The issues we’re fighting for in Texas—healthcare, immigration reform, economic justice—these issues resonate far beyond state lines. The outcomes of elections in Texas have a national impact, and we need to stand together across this country to create the change we want to see.
This campaign is about more than just flipping a Senate seat. It’s about pushing forward a movement for justice that starts in Texas and radiates outward. We’re up against politicians who don’t just oppose our values; they actively work to undermine the progress we've made. My likely opponent, State Legislator Kyle Fitzgerald, has built his political career on divisive policies, including the E-Verify legislation he sponsored last session. That bill didn’t just target immigrants; it targeted families, workers, and the very fabric of our communities. It's a strategy of fear designed to pit people against one another, and I refuse to let that become the future of our state—or our country.
We’re fighting for something different. We’re fighting for a Texas where your right to work, to live, and to thrive is not dictated by your immigration status or the color of your skin. We’re fighting for a Texas where healthcare is a right, where workers earn a living wage, and where every child has access to quality education regardless of their zip code. And I believe, with every fiber of my being, that this fight is worth every bit of energy, every dollar, and every ounce of passion we can muster.
Now, I know I’m standing here in a room far from Texas, but our fates are linked. Texas is often a testing ground for policies that ripple across the nation. If we can defeat politicians like Fitzgerald and show that a diverse, progressive coalition can win in Texas, then we send a powerful message to the entire country: change is possible, and it starts with all of us.
But let's not kid ourselves—this is going to be a tough fight. Texas is vast, and our opposition has deep pockets. They are backed by corporate interests and donors who will spare no expense to keep voices like mine out of Washington. That's why we're here tonight. We need to build a campaign that reaches every corner of Texas, from the big cities like Houston and Dallas to the small towns and rural communities where so many feel overlooked. We need to fund organizers, field offices, ads, and voter outreach programs that can break through the noise and connect with voters directly.
This campaign isn’t about running against a single legislator; it's about standing up against a system that has left too many people behind. It’s about building a future where opportunity isn’t limited by your background, where healthcare is accessible to all, and where immigrants are welcomed as an integral part of our communities, not treated as scapegoats.
Texas has always been a place of opportunity, and I am running to make sure it stays that way—for every single Texan. But I can't do this alone. Our campaign is a grassroots effort, and that means it’s powered by people like you who believe in this cause. I’m asking for your support tonight, not just as donors, but as partners in this movement. Because when we win in Texas, we send a message that echoes across this nation: that hope, decency, and progress will always triumph over fear and division.
So tonight, I ask for your investment in this vision. Your contributions will help us fund the outreach efforts needed to talk to voters in every part of Texas, to hold town halls, to run ads that cut through the misinformation, and to build a coalition that reflects the rich diversity of our state.
Together, we can take this fight to Washington, not just to win a Senate seat, but to ensure that our government represents all of us. This isn’t just a campaign; it’s a movement. And it’s a movement that needs each and every one of you.
Thank you for standing with me. Thank you for believing in a future where every person is treated with dignity, where justice is not a privilege for the few but a right for all. I look forward to fighting this fight with you, every step of the way, from here in Los Angeles to the Texas border and all the way to the United States Senate.
Thank you. Let's get to work.
