Governor David Acton Elected Republican State Legislature Leader
AUSTIN, TX - Governor David Acton (R-TX) was elected leader of the Republican legislative caucus in the State Legislature yesterday. With Republicans having a majority of Governors, that means Governor Acton acts as the Majority Leader of the Legislature, with the power to add bills to the debate docket.
In a statement after his election, Governor Acton said: “It is an honor and a pleasure to be elected as Republican Leader in the State Legislature. I look forward to working with my colleagues, Republican and otherwise, to get good work done and real results delivered for the people of Texas and all of America. I intend on getting us to work immediately, putting up bills from both parties for debate so that we can ensure the government’s wheels are turning and taxpayer money isn’t being wasted.”
The first bill up for debate, starting this morning, is the Texas Energy Security and Power Act, which Governor Acton introduced previously and has been pushing for since. Bills from other states will soon follow, with a special focus on community safety, justice, and jobs.
