HOUSTON, TX — Tonight, the people of Texas spoke, and they spoke with one voice. Rev. Dr. Eve Blackwell won the Democratic primary for United States Senate with 95 percent of the vote — a resounding mandate from Texans who believe our government should work as hard as they do.

"This is not my victory. This is ours," Dr. Blackwell told a jubilant crowd at Greater Cornerstone Cathedral tonight. "Tonight, working families, small business owners, teachers, nurses, and neighbors from Beaumont to El Paso told Austin and Washington the same thing: we are done waiting. Texas deserves a Senator who answers to her people, not to the powerful few."

Dr. Blackwell — a pastor who has spent decades serving Houston's Third Ward, and a leader who has never stopped fighting for working people — now turns to the general election against incumbent Sen. Royce Whitman, a race she enters with unmatched energy and a coalition built to win.

"We built this campaign one conversation, one porch, one prayer at a time," Dr. Blackwell said. "And we're going to build a better Texas the same way — together. Come the general, we are going to change everything."

The campaign will continue its message of shared prosperity, fiscal responsibility, and accountability for corporations that don't play by the rules — a vision for an economy that finally works for all Texans.
