No Place Like Home
LAWRENCE, KS — With deep Kansas roots, a record of independent leadership, and a plainspoken promise to “put people before politics,” State Representative Heather Vaughn today announced her campaign for Governor of Kansas as an independent "One America" candidate.
“I’m not a career politician — I’m a farm girl who grew up fixing fence lines, feeding cattle, and learning that hard work beats political talk every single day,” said Heather. “I’ve seen what happens when Topeka and Washington forget who they’re working for. It’s time Kansans had a Governor who answers to the people — not the parties.”
Born and raised in rural Douglas County, Heather Vaughn has built a reputation for straight talk, fiscal responsibility, and bridging divides between Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike. During her time in the Legislature, she’s fought for rural infrastructure, public education, small business growth, and local control, while refusing to take corporate PAC money.
As Governor, Heather says she’ll focus on “kitchen table” priorities — cutting property taxes for working families, protecting Kansas farms and ranches, expanding broadband access, and investing in trade schools and technical education to strengthen the workforce.
“I won’t fit neatly in a political box — and that’s exactly why I’m running,” Heather said. “Kansans are tired of the same old partisan tug-of-war dividing our country like they do in Washington. Kansans want leadership rooted in Kansas values: honesty, humility, and hard work.”
The Heather Vaughn for Governor campaign will officially launch its grassroots statewide “No Place Like Home” tour this spring, visiting all 105 counties and inviting citizens to share their concerns and ideas directly with Heather herself!
“We’re going to do this the Kansas way — face to face, community to community,” said Heather. “Because real change starts with us.”
