Acton Signs Inflation Relief Act Into Law, Promises Swift Implementation

6/15/2026, 3:12:30 PM · David Acton · Issue: Inflation

AUSTIN – Governor David Acton today signed the Texas Inflation Relief Act of 2026 into law, delivering targeted relief to families and businesses struggling with high costs.

“Today we are striking a blow against inflation by cutting taxes, boosting housing supply, and reducing government burdens,” said Governor Acton. “This bill puts real money back in Texans’ pockets. My administration will move quickly to implement every provision.”

The new law includes:

  • Expansion of the business personal property exemption to $250,000 per location and accelerated appraisal caps limited to 3% annual increases.
  • Six-month preemption of restrictive local zoning on new single-family and multi-family housing in high-demand areas.
  • 60-day fast-track permitting for residential construction and infrastructure projects.
  • One-in, two-out regulatory rule with cost-benefit analysis.
  • Removal of barriers to vocational training, apprenticeships, and certifications.
  • Creation of a Texas DOGE Task Force to cut waste and bureaucracy.
  • Permanent ban on taxpayer-funded lobbying, full competitive bidding transparency, and strong liability protections for farmers and ranchers against activist lawsuits.

The Act sunsets in nine months, with permanent exceptions for key accountability measures. Implementation begins immediately, with executive actions to follow for permitting reforms and the DOGE Task Force.
