Acton’s Texas Inflation Bill Hits Legislature Floor, Governor Calls for Swift Passage
AUSTIN – The Texas Inflation Relief Act of 2026 reached the House floor today as Governor David Acton urged lawmakers to pass this targeted relief package.
In a floor speech, Governor Acton highlighted how the bill fights inflation by lowering taxes, boosting housing supply, and slashing red tape. “Inflation continues to squeeze Texas families,” Acton said. “This bill delivers real relief without new spending or taxes.”
The legislation would:
- Expand the business personal property exemption to $250,000 and accelerate appraisal caps to a 3% annual limit.
- Temporarily preempt restrictive local zoning on new housing for six months and fast-track residential permits to 60 days.
- Enact a one-in, two-out regulatory rule with cost-benefit analysis.
- Remove barriers to vocational training and apprenticeships.
- Create a Texas DOGE Task Force to cut government waste.
- Permanently ban taxpayer-funded lobbying, require bidding transparency, and protect farmers and ranchers from activist lawsuits.
The bill includes a nine-month sunset with permanent exceptions for key accountability provisions.
Governor Acton called on the Legislature to pass the measure quickly: “Let us keep Texas affordable and prosperous for all.”
