Storm Establish Identity in First Practice

3/24/2026, 7:25:29 PM · Chris Andrews

The Tampa Bay Storm took the field for their first official practice, and Head Coach Alonzo Mercer’s identity was immediately clear: discipline, structure, and accountability.

From the opening whistle, the focus was on execution. “It starts with trust,” Mercer said. “Doing your job every time.”

Quarterback Christian Andrews showed confidence while adjusting to Offensive Coordinator Callum Wexford’s timing-based system. Running back Trevion Sutter provided steady reliability, while wide receiver Jamir Cooks flashed big-play ability, along with a reminder from coaches that precision matters as much as production.

Tyler Bannerman stood out for his consistency and route discipline, reinforcing the offense’s emphasis on timing. Along the line, Leon Frazier displayed strong physical tools as he continues developing into a key piece.

Defensively, Calvin Hargrove set the tone with disciplined play up front, while Darius Temple’s effort and awareness were evident throughout practice. In the secondary, Ismael Correa and Marcus Vance led a composed unit focused on limiting mistakes and maintaining structure.

As expected, there were early adjustments, but the foundation is clear.

The Storm aren’t chasing flash. They’re building something built on trust, execution, and doing things the right way.
