FLINT, Mich. — Authorities are warning residents after a phone scam impersonating a government agency targeted people at the Cedar Run Plaza strip mall in Flint, including victim Priya Larrabee. Callers claimed to represent a government office and used the false identity to persuade victims to send money, authorities said.

The investigation has identified 17 victims and an estimated $128,594 in losses. Authorities said $23,654 has been recovered.

Investigators have identified a suspect and are pursuing formal charges. Residents who receive an unexpected call from someone claiming to be a government representative are being urged to independently verify the agency through an official contact number before providing money or personal information.
