A video recorded on a highway shoulder in Tucson shows a heated verbal exchange between a driver and an officer over why the driver had been pulled over. The footage, which has been viewed 124,000 times, centers on the driver challenging the stated reason for the stop as the officer responds during the roadside dispute.

After public feedback about the encounter, the department announced it will conduct a 42-day review of its traffic-stop policies. The department said the review was a response to the concerns raised by viewers and community members after the video circulated online.

City Council member Bianca Delaney said the department’s decision to examine its policies gives residents a formal avenue for their concerns to be considered. The announced review is the department’s concrete next step following the public response to the video.
