Northstar Process Systems has told Mount Laurel employees whose layoffs were reversed that they will not necessarily return to their former departments, instead moving into a newly created internal operations pool as the company continues to reorganize around declining industry demand.

The change adds fresh uncertainty after the corporate employer reversed an unspecified portion of 123 planned layoffs following a review. Workers in the pool are to receive revised assignments as managers determine which functions remain needed, according to information shared with affected employees. Northstar, which has operated for 56 years, has not said how long the reassignment process will last.

Odell Suzuki, an affected worker, said the reversal brought relief but that the new arrangement left employees waiting to learn what their daily work and longer-term roles will look like. The remaining job cuts are still tied to the decline in demand affecting the industry.
