Declan O’Shea Releases New Music Marking a Bold New Chapter in His Sound

Irish singer-songwriter Declan O’Shea unveils three new songs, showcasing a darker, more mature sound influenced by his recent experiences on tour.

Irish singer-songwriter Declan O’Shea has released three new songs—“Love Like a Fire,” “River Take Me Down,” and “Blood in the Water”—marking a significant evolution in his musical style. This new music blends elements of indie folk with blues, soul, and roots rock, reflecting a darker and more mature approach shaped by O’Shea’s recent experiences on the road, according to a press release. The songs were written over the past year following O’Shea’s U.S. tour and represent a period of personal and artistic growth. While he initially gained recognition for his atmospheric folk songwriting rooted in Irish imagery, his latest work expands into broader themes, including love, ambition, doubt, and emotional reckoning. The result is a sound that combines the lyrical depth of modern folk with the grit and soul of American blues and gospel traditions. “Love Like a Fire” serves as the project’s driving anthem, featuring a moody opening that transitions into a soaring, choir-backed chorus about the passionate yet destructive nature of love. In contrast, “River Take Me Down” is a slower, reflective ballad infused with blues elements, exploring themes of surrender and leaving the past behind. The final track, “Blood in the Water,” is characterized by gritty guitar work and a tense rhythm, delving into ambition, rivalry, and survival. “These songs came out of the last couple of years of traveling, writing, and trying to make sense of where life was going,” O’Shea stated. He described the new material as “a bit heavier, a bit louder, and maybe a bit more honest than anything I’ve released before.” This release signifies the beginning of a new phase for O’Shea as an artist, focusing on powerful vocals, blues-driven guitar work, and cinematic arrangements while maintaining the storytelling that initially defined his music. In addition to the new songs, O’Shea will embark on a U.S. tour starting March 5, where he will perform the new material for audiences across the country. This tour follows his self-funded “Beneath the Rowan Tree” tour, during which he captivated audiences in cities with strong Irish-American communities. Declan O’Shea, 29, hails from Wicklow, Ireland, and has made a name for himself in the international music scene through his organic rise and deep storytelling. His debut album, released in early 2025, showcased his lyrical depth and resonated with listeners seeking sincerity in modern music. As he continues to evolve, O’Shea remains a significant voice in the folk genre, drawing from both Irish traditions and contemporary influences.
