The Denver Summit built an early advantage, then made it endure. Denver held off the Miami Beach Breakers 10-9 at The Peak in a taut Season 6, Week 2 contest defined by field position, lengthy possessions and a late chance that Miami could not turn into the winning score.
Denver opened with its most complete offensive series of the afternoon, traveling for a touchdown on 10 plays. Lawson Pike supplied the finishing rush score, and the Summit had the only touchdown they would need. Miami answered with a 49-yard field goal after moving the ball on its next possession, but Denver restored its margin with another field goal drive.
That early 10-3 edge became the central fact of the game. Miami trimmed it with a second field goal, and neither offense found a breakthrough over the next stretch of alternating punts. The Breakers continued to lean on Donovan Raines, who carried 23 times for 88 yards, while Taylen Rucker kept the offense moving with a controlled passing attack.
Miami’s third field goal, coming after an 11-play possession, pulled the Breakers within a point at 10-9 and sharpened the pressure on Denver. The Summit response initially appeared promising: Evander Holt completed passes and Denver moved into Miami territory. But the possession ended with an interception, handing the Breakers the ball with a chance to seize a game they had spent much of the day chasing.
Miami could not convert that opening. Its ensuing drive ended in a punt, and Denver followed with another punt of its own. Rucker and the Breakers received one last possession but again were forced to kick it away, allowing the Summit to preserve the one-point result.
Holt completed 18 of 29 passes for 164 yards, with the interception the lone turnover on Denver’s ledger. His most dependable targets were Gregory Johnson, who caught 12 passes for 98 yards, and Dallas Key, who added six receptions for 66 yards. The work from Johnson and Key supplied the bulk of the Summit’s production through the air in a game without a passing touchdown.
Key’s afternoon also carried league-wide significance. He broke the DFL career receptions record, reaching 420 and surpassing the previous mark of 414. In a game where every possession became consequential, his steady work in Denver’s passing game helped the Summit maintain control often enough to escape with the result.
For Miami, Rucker finished 16 of 29 for 176 yards without a touchdown or interception. Ramon Delgado led the Breakers with 10 catches for 106 yards, while Tyrone Blackwell contributed six receptions for 70 yards. Their production repeatedly moved Miami into range, but the Breakers were left to settle for field goals rather than finishing drives in the end zone.
The victory keeps Denver at the top of its conference and at league No. 3 in the current standings, carrying a W2 streak and a point differential of 9. Miami falls to league No. 10 and conference No. 6, with an L2 streak and a minus-8 point differential.
Denver also extends its series advantage over Miami Beach to 1-0. For the Summit, the narrow win reinforced an unbeaten start built on execution in close moments. For the Breakers, it was another near miss, with the difference resting on an early touchdown Denver defended all the way to the finish.
